Frequently Asked Questions?
Does it hurt?
Pain tolerance differs from person to person though you can be reassured that with the hundreds of people we have serviced to date that we have had no client unable to tolerate the procedure. Some patients say it tickles and others say if feels similar to scratching you back.
Are there any side effects?
One should understand that Hijama will lead to circular bruises or discolourations for a few days (on avg 4-5 days) where the cups were applied, which are, in effect, large ‘hickies’. Other possible minor side effects are slight light-headedness post cupping therapy; this is similar to the sensation one feels after having had blood taken by a doctor, as cupping therapy encourages blood flow to the cupped region (hyperaemia); one may therefore feel warmer and hotter as a result of vasodilatation (widening of blood vessel).
HIJAMA is a vital Sunnah in ISLAM.
It has been an important part of Islamic Culture for centuries.
Many diseases and disorders are associated with failure of blood to circulate properly in the body. Cupping encourages tissues to release toxins, it is the job of your organs to remove toxins from your blood, but the modern lifestyle overloads your body with toxins. Hijama helps your body by flushing built up toxins through the lymphatic system.
HIJAMA BEFORE AND AFTER CARE
Clients with severe health conditions should consult with their health care professionals prior to hijama.
It is recommended that clients take a shower at least 3 hours before hijama appointment and are in a state of wudoo. (ablution).
Warm shower before your session helps stimulate blood circulation and promote release of blood stasis. Avoid taking a shower right after your Hijama appointment.
Clients should not exercise the day of their hijama appointment. This is because we want to remove the toxins that are stagnant in the deep tissue. Exercising before your appointment will disperse them throughout the body and make it harder to remove. Likewise, do not exercise after your hijama appointment for at least 24 hours. Staying lightly active is highly recommended. A brisk walk is best without elevating heart rate too much.
If you feel dizzy or lightheaded , lie down and raise your legs.
You need to fast for at least 3 hours (no food or drinks ) except water , prior to your scheduled appointment. You can eat something light before 3 hours. Avoid coffee or any caffeine products before and after Hijama.
Digesting dairy products places a heavy burden on our body’s detoxification system so avoid consuming milk or cheese or other dairy products and eggs at least 8 hours before and after Hijama.
Consuming red meat may also take longer for the body to digest. Therefore, do not eat red meat 24 hours before hijama, as well as 24 hours after hijama. This will optimize the results of the hijama and allow the body to focus on healing rather than digesting.
Clients should eat a balanced wholesome and healthy diet after hijama. Eating smaller meals or snacks throughout the rest of the day, rather than a heavy meal, is recommended. Drink plenty of fluids , eat raw fruits, and vegetables, avoid processed or packaged foods.
Drink plenty of room temperature water for at least 24 hours before your Hijama session & 24 hours after. This will help your body flush out what has been drawn up to the surface during hijama or cupping.
Clients should wear comfortable clothes. Hijama is usually performed on the back during the first session.
No swimming 48 hours after your hijama appointment.
Do not sleep or rest after your hijama appointment as newly dislodged living and dead cells could result in clotting. This also includes sitting in one position for too long. Try to stay lightly active for the next 3 hours.
Avoid traveling 24 hours after Hijama.
The tiny superficial cuts can feel itchy after hijama. It is recommended to apply black seed oil to help with the healing process. Do not scratch or itch where he hijama was performed. I do not recommend the use of ointments or antiseptic creams. If you have very dry skin and scar easily use vitamin E oil or coconut oil on the scabs to help with the healing process.
The round red marks on the clients back is from the vacuum suction of the hijama cups. These marks usually disappear within 48 hours to 4 weeks depending on the healing process and the severity of the toxins released.
Avoid workout for at least 24 hours after hijama. Avoid exercise, steam rooms and saunas or any other exposure to extreme cold or heat for 24 hours after a session. Do not expose yourself to excessive cold or heat the next 24 hours.
Avoid sexual intercourse within 24 hours after Hijama.
Avoid any activity that raises the heart rate.
Since Hijama therapy opens the pores and channels of your body avoid drafts, sitting in front of fans, windy places, or getting chilled.
Hijama can not be performed while you are on your menstrual cycle.
For the next few days you may notice changes in your bowel and urinary habits, sleep patterns , emotional levels, mood swings and appetite. You may experience skin breakouts, tiredness, feeling drained or low on energy, excessive flatulence, release of body fluids such as phlegm , mucous , sweat, tears. These are nothing to be worried about. It is because your body is getting used to a massive shift in energy after the treatment. Your body will be adjusting to changes in your physical, mental, emotional and spiritual state. Some people feel worse before feeling better. After a few sessions you will feel more healthier and more balanced.
Your practitioner will recommend a course of treatment depending on your specific ailment. For regular detox and to keep your body clean and healthy, four times a year is recommended. No less than once a month for chronic conditions.
